Why We Love Fall
![]() |
The chilling autumn breeze has started shaking the first leaves from the trees, and you know what that means. Raking! Now, I have never been one to belabor raking. I like seeing the immediate results of my work, and enjoy having time alone in the yard to think. It’s this ability to find pleasure and meditation in work that allows folks like you and me to enjoy horses. In our horses, we find a reason to labor selflessly and appreciate life fully.
This fall issue is a cover-to-cover account of the ways Southern States customers appreciate the horse life. We have enthusiastic Kentuckians, who love their homegrown breed of docile Rocky Mountain Horses. We talk with folks at Florida’s M.C. Ranch, who rediscovered their passion for rodeo riding. Rachel Miller shows us that riding sidesaddle never died, but rather is making a steady comeback. Ray Coutley tells us how his flight plan shifted from Naval aviation to Quarter Horse elevation. And we have Dr. Floyd at Serenity Equine Clinic, who is so dedicated to equine health that she has made it her life’s work.
So for now, relax, read and enjoy. Later while you are hard at work raking those leaves into neat piles and preparing your house and herd for the cold to come, take some time to consider the good work that goes into every horse owner’s story. We can all appreciate how lucky we are to share in this worthwhile labor.
